Welcome to Novice Red!
Our team is finalized & your coaching staff is excited for a great year of fun on our hockey team.

Your coaching staff includes: Scott Mackey (Coach), Dennis Dean (Coach), Bryan Mann (Coach), Dave Waun (Trainer/Coach) & Dave Berry (Asst Trainer).  I'm Barb Dean and I handle the paperwork and much of the communications :)

Forms to complete:
At practice the other night, I was able to get almost everyone to fill out their OMHA & Medical forms.  I'll reach out to anyone that got missed at our next ice time!

Practice times:
Our practice times will be posted a month in advance, but none of the teams have assigned practice times this year. Four times per year, we will have Mike Bondy join us for our practice which take place at the WMMC - a great opportunity for our team - you need to attend this practice just like any other.  There will also be limited number of times throughout the year where we will have an early 4:30pm practice time.  We realize its difficult to get to that time but rest assured there are only a few times like this and every team has to take turns using up this time slot.

Allergies:
We do have severe nut & egg allergies on our team so please be mindful if you plan on having a treat to share with the team.  If you could touch base with me before hand we can speak to the parent(s) who children have these allergies to make sure its safe for all the kids!

Tournaments:
We have three tournaments booked for the year.

November 20-22nd Black & Gold Tournament - West Lorne, ON

December 27-30th - John Henry tournament - Strathroy, ON

February 12-14th Riverside Family First Tournament - Windsor, ON
One away tournament in Windsor - Riverside Family First - Family Day weekend - February 12-14th weekend.  We have attended this one before and its a lot of fun and well organized.  I have our hotel rooms blocked off and will email that to you all in the next week.

There is a tournament fee associated with both the Black & Gold tournament as well as the Riverside tournament which I will communicate in the next two weeks.  The fee is split equally amongst all players on our team.  Game times usually come out about 2 weeks prior to tournament start.

Tournament Rep:
Thank you to the VanHeeswyk family for volunteering to be our tournament rep!   Part of their role includes getting gift baskets to contribute to the tournaments throughout the season.  We will all contribute $10 towards those baskets that they'll be making up on behalf of our team.  Part of our obligation to making the baskets is because we do not have to pay a tournament fee for the John Henry tournament in December.  If you or a business want to help out by donating a basket on behalf of the team, please let one of us know!

Subscribing to Updates:
Please ensure you go to the main page of SDMHA website and sign up for text and/or Email updates from our team.  The majority of our information will be relayed this way.  In addition, you can also have our schedule download into your smart phone or iPad using the following link: http://sdmha.org/Webcal/  - This is a fantastic tool to sign up for all of your kids teams at once and without typing any more schedule in have it populate and change as the schedule changes.  If you need help doing this, I'd be happy to help - it makes it so much easier to organize your calendar as well as being informed by doing so.

Volunteer hours:
You can earn back your volunteer hours by putting in 10 hours of time doing various volunteer tasks through the season.  Starting this year, you can sign up for your volunteer hours via this website: SDMHA Volunteer Sign Up
As tasks are needed they will be posted on this website.

The collection of gate fees do not count towards these hours as its a commitment our team has to perform...so we take turns on that.

Gate Collection:
Each "home" game we have to assign one of our team families to collect the money to get into the game.  Record it on the sheets provided and deposit it into the metal drop box up stairs of Gemini closest to the window overlooking the Blue Pad.  On our Novice Red website you will see a Gate Duty tab.  This will shown when your gate collection will be.  Its up to you to come with a float, setup the table & sign (provided) if its not set up already, collect the fees and remit in the envelope & drop box.  Detailed instructions of gate collection are on our Gate Duty tab.  New this year, Adults $4, Seniors/ Students $2.  Note Season passes are not valid for Exhibition Games, OMHA Playdowns or League Playoffs.

Attendance:
As our team has a small bench the kids are going to get lots of ice time.  This also means we need everyone to be at our games and practices...we realize sickness etc can come up and in those cases, please let us know as soon as you can - so we can make our game plans accordingly (or bring players up from Tyke if needed).  You can text me (519-619-8852) or email me of this type of absence.  On game days, the kids are expected to be dressed & laces tied 15 minutes prior to game start.

Welcome to our team - its going to be a great year, we are excited to have your child on our team.

If you have questions or concerns, direct them my way and I'd be happy to assist in getting answers for you!
