I
want to extend a sincere thank you to all the Strathroy District Minor Hockey
Association members who attended our special meeting last night. Your
attendance, input, and ideas are what allows us to grow as an association. It
is through these collective conversations that we build something we can all be
proud of and ensure we are improving in the best way possible for our amazing
athletes.
One
topic I wanted to touch on was the discussion and vote on the refreshing but
maintaining our identity as the Strathroy Jr Rockets, in particular to the
ownership of the current logo. After looking into the ownership of the logo, it
came to my attention I used inaccurate wording when speaking to the logo
ownership. I was under the impression based on information and prior
discussions, that Pete’s Sports/New Era were the “owner” of the logo and I did
not fact check that specific terminology before speaking, and I take full
responsibility for that oversight.
The accurate statement should have been that Pete’s Sports/New
Era designed our logo and is the “owner of the rights to reproduce the logo”
for apparel, jerseys and merch. I shared inaccurate information myself and I
apologize for not doing my due diligence and using the wrong wording. Because
of my wording it has come to my attention that there were assumptions made that
the logo was being withheld from SDMHA by Pete’s Sports/New Era and that simply
is not true.
SDMHA has a long and storied history with Pete’s Sports. They
have been instrumental in many of our successes over the years. We value this
partnership deeply, and both Strathroy Minor Hockey and Pete’s Sports/New Era
are excited about the future we have ahead of us.
I’m closing, again I apologize for my mis-worded inaccurate
statement and any confusion or assumptions it has caused. I’m looking forward
as we look to refresh our brand, if there are any ideas or questions please
feel free to reach out at anytime.
