Blending Skill and Sportsmanship Proves Effective
In their second game of the 2013-14 season, the Strathroy Bantam LL Blue team blended skill and sportsmanship against the East Lambton Eagles. Despite a rocky start, the end-result was a game that was beautiful to watch (and yes, a win for our boys).
Our team started off slow as they took to the ice in their first away game. Within the first 5 minutes, East Lambton managed to put two goals past our goalie, with seeming ease. Rather than falling apart, however, our boys regrouped, pulled it together and slowly started putting points on the board. By the end of the first period, the score was tied at 2 apiece.
In the second period. Strathroy Blue kept their momentum up, adding 8 goals to the board and only allowing East Lambton to put 1 in our net. Beyond our 5th goal, however, our boys kept the celebrations to a minimum and focused on playing strong hockey. For a good portion of the remainder of the game, the coaching staff mixed things up, pulling players out of their regular positions, affording them the opportunity to experiment with different roles and strategies.
In the third period, Strathroy Blue maintained their grounded approach, focusing on playing good, strong hockey and scoring twice more. East Lambton managed two more goals for their team as well, bringing their total up to 5. Final score for the game was 12-5 for Strathroy Bantam Blue.
Goalie Ben F. was truly on fire during this game, making numerous spectacular blocks and saves with apparent ease. Our team's goal-scorers were: Griffin S. (2), Danny P. (2), Lucas T. (2), Jacob B. (2), Zach J. (1), Tyler S., (1), Duncan M. (2). Assists were earned by: Zach J. (1), Griffin S., (4), Evan S. (1), Tyler S. (1), Danny P. (3), Duncan M. (1), Lucas T. (1), Brennan L. (1), and Adam E. (1).
