🏒 SDMHA Tournament Rules & Information
• This is an OMHA-sanctioned tournament. All OMHA rules and regulations will apply to tournament games.
• No body contact permitted in any division.
• All play must reflect good sportsmanship and conduct.
Team Requirements
• Each team must list an approved Head Coach and Trainer on every game sheet.
• All teams will require HOME & AWAY sweaters
• The HOME team will wear light sweaters
• Teams must be ready 15 minutes before game time.
Game Format
• U9–U13: 10–10–10 stop time
Championship 10-10-15
• U15–U18: 10–10–15 stop time
Championship 10 - 15 -15
• Ice floods after each game.
• Warm-up: 3 minutes before each game.
• Timeouts: One 30-second timeout per team, per game.
• Each team is guaranteed three games.
Mercy Rule
• In Round Robin: 5-goal lead triggers running clock.
• Stop time resumes when the lead returns to 3 goals.
• Penalties during Mercy Rule: 3 minutes running time.
• Not applicable in Semi-finals or Medal Games.
Points System
• Win in regulation: 2 points
• Tie in regulation: 1 point each
• Loss in regulation: 0 points
• Teams ranked by total points at the end of the Round Robin.
Tie Breakers
• Head-to-Head result**
• Goal percentage – is determined by adding the total goals for to the total goals against and dividing this total into total goals for. The higher percentage wins the higher position.
Example
30 goals for + 16 goals against = 46
Then divide 46 by the total goals for (30) - gives a goal percentage of .652
• If still tied after Above, then the higher seed will be determined by the following (in the order provided):
c. Least goals against
d. Least total penalty minutes in round robin games
e. Fastest opening goal scored during round robin games
f. Coin toss
** Please note that Head to Head, in the case of three or more teams being tied, will only apply if one team has beaten all the other teams tied
Advancement
• U9, U11, U13, U15, U18: Two pools of four teams.
• First-place team from each pool advances to the Championship Game.
Overtime Rules (Championship Game)
• 5-minute 3-on-3 sudden victory.
• If still tied a three-player shoot-out (each team will provide the name of their three players for this shoot-out on the game sheet before the game).
• If still tied after the initial three players, there will be a single-shot sudden victory shootout. No player can shoot a second time until all players have taken a shot.
• Penalties carry forward into overtime.
• Players serving penalties at the end of overtime are ineligible for the shootout.
Penalties & Suspensions
• Any major penalty: player ejected + suspended next game.
• Fighting misconduct or Match Penalty: suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
• It is the responsibility of the team official to find out if any suspensions occurred in their games. Tournament suspensions are recorded and submitted to the OMHA daily and will be served during tournament play. Check with local associations for rules governing carryovers.
Administration
• Decisions of the convener/designate are final.
• The decision of the referees is final; no appeals will be heard. The tournament committee reserves the right to make changes at any time due to unforeseen circumstances. All decisions of the tournament committee are final.
Refund Policy
• 20+ days before start: Full refund
• 14–19 days before start: 50% refund
• 13 days or less: No refund
