2016 Andy Passero Memorial Tournament
Congrats to our Peewee Rep Boys!  2016 Andy Passero Memorial Peewee Major A Tournament Champions

The team travelled to Fort Erie, ON Dec 2nd to 4th, 2016.  During the round robin play they came up with a 1-1 tie and a 6-0 win.  After a gruelling 4-2 win in the elimination round Strathroy was geared up to play Welland in the semi’s.  This was a tightly contested battle with nothing being solved in regulation with the score being 1-1.  The teams traded chances during the 5 minute 4-on-4 OT, however neither team came out on top.  Off to the shoot-out; with Strathroy first to go Sanddog scored which put the pressure on Welland, however they answered with a goal of their own.  Next up for Strathroy was Makarov who narrowly missed scoring on his opportunity.  Welland also missed on their second opportunity so everything was still all tied up.  Next up for Strathroy was Hewy with an opportunity to put all the pressure on Welland.  Hewy didn’t disappoint and put Strathroy up 2-1 in the shoot-out.  Welland had one more opportunity which Gaurds turned aside and off to the finals they went.    Their 2-1 victory lead them to the finals against a tough team from St. Catherines (Garden City).  Garden City had outscored their opponents 24-3 on their way to meeting up with the Rockets in the final.  Strathroy knew they were in for a tough test and needed to come out flying.  Garden City didn’t see the Rockets coming and after 4 minutes into the 1st period Strathroy already had a commanding 3-0 lead.  The boys had only given up 4 goals leading up to the final game and they knew their strong team defence could hold Garden City from mounting a comeback.  After 3 periods they were the 2016 Andy Passero Memorial Peewee Major A Tournament Champions with a 4-1 victory.  Great work Rockets!
