One Loss, One Win in a Hockey-Filled Weekend
The last weekend of the holidays was a hockey-filled one for the Bantam LL Blue team. Following their regular Friday night practice, the boys took to the road on Saturday, January 4th to face the Lucan Irish.
After an initial burst of energy, Strathroy seemed to lose their energy, which meant an early lead for the Irish. Half-way through the first period, Lucan had already managed to put 3 unanswered goals past our boys. Thankfully, somewhere around the 7 minute mark, Griffin S. scored for our team, assisted by Jacob B and Evan S. This seemed to provide a much-needed infusion of confidence, and Strathroy played the rest of the game with the energy and teamwork they've shown themselves to be capable of. Additional goals were scored by Jacob B. (assisted by Ryan J. and Griffin S.), Zach J. (assisted by Lucas T. and Brennan L.) and Lucas T. (assisted by Duncan M.) giving us a total of 4 goals for the game. In the end, this wasn't quite enough to result in a win for Strathroy; Lucan played a strong game, earning 6 goals when all was said and done, giving them the point for that game.
On Sunday, January 5th, 2014, Strathroy played at full-strength for the first time since before the John Henry tournament, taking on the Lambton Shores Predators on home ice. From the opening whistle, things appeared to be quite one-sided as our boys played a strong game, both defensively and offensively. A total of eight goals were scored by our team, earned as follows: Griffin S. (assisted by Tyler S.); Tyler S. (assisted by Lucas. T.); Griffin S. (assisted by Jacob B.); Danny P. (assisted by Jacob B. and Griffin S.); Duncan M. (unassisted); Tyler S. (assisted by Duncan M. and Griffin S.); Lucas T. (unassisted); and Griffin S. (assisted by Tyler S.).
Unfortunately, Lambton Shores wasn't able to respond in kind and our goalie, Ben F. earned a well-deserved shut-out, his second of the season.
The Strathroy Bantam LL Blue team has their next game on January 19th, 2014. The game will take place at 12 p.m. in Mount Brydges.
