The Boys Are Back!
In a fabulous display of focused teamwork, the Strathroy Bantam LL Blue team overcame a 4-game losing streak. Although Sunday night's game against the Point Edward Blackhawks ended in a tie as opposed to a much-desired win, the Strathroy team that took to the ice was clearly determined to play their best and prove themselves capable of playing great hockey.
From the moment the puck dropped, our Bantam blue team played with intense energy. Throughout the game they demonstrated great skill, going back to basics and giving Point Edward an incredible run for their money. Shot for shot, the teams appeared evenly matched from the get-go. At no point did either team out-play the other, and the first two periods were scoreless for both teams.
It was mid-way through the third period before Point Edward managed the first goal of the game. Not to be outdone, Strathroy held their focus and determination, and managed a beautiful goal of their own 2 minutes later by Jacob B., brilliantly assisted by Tyler S. and Ryan J. The game remained tied until near the end of the period when, with one and half minutes left, Point Edward popped another into our net. Ordinarily, this would have been the point at which to concede the game and just hold the status quo. That was simply not an option, however, and Strathroy Blue continued to play with fervor. As a result, with 1.9 seconds left in the game, Danny P. managed the goal that resulted in a tie, assisted by Tyler S. The final score of the game was 2-2.
All in all, it was an incredible game to watch, demonstrating the brilliance that is possible when individuals become a team.
The Strathroy Bantam LL Blue team will play their next game in Strathroy's own John Henry Tournament. Their first game will be on December 27th against the Southwest Bullets, at the Gemini Sportsplex, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a game on December 28th at 9:30 p.m. against Strathroy Red, and December 29th at 7 p.m. against the East Lambton Eagles. Regular season play will resume on January 4th, 2014 at 7 p.m. against the Lucan Irish, in Lucan.
