Fabulous Team Work Pays Off For Bantam Red
On Saturday, December 15th, 2012, the Strathroy Bantam LL Red team, sponsored by Ricco Foods took on the Strathroy Bantam LL Blue team in what turned out to be an exciting game.
Playing against many of their peers and classmates, everyone knew from the get-go that this would be a great game to watch. From the outset, both teams played their hearts out, neither willing to give anything up in terms of goals. Indeed, for much of the first period, the play was evenly matched, leaving both teams scoreless until the 6 minute mark, at which point Mackenzie R. of Strathroy Red got the first-goal of the game, assisted by Jacob B. Shortly thereafter, in an effort to build a bit of a buffer, Strathroy Red's Brandon F. scored again, assisted by Russel L., and Zac C. Strathroy Blue came back before too long, however, and scored their game's first goal with less than two minutes left in the period.
The second period of the game was equally fast-paced and intense. Early on, Strathroy Blue scored a second goal, bringing the scored-board to 2-2. After a bit of back-and-forth play, Jacob B., assisted by Mackenzie R. and Russel L, scored a third goal for Strathroy Red. This was quickly followed up by a 4th goal by Russel L, unassisted. With the scoreboard at 4-2, both teams continued to play hard, neither will to concede anything.
In the third period, fatigue began to make itself shown. Despite this, Strathroy Red held their own, leaning into their determination, teamwork and puck-handling that they'd worked on in practice. By playing solid hockey for the remaining 15 minutes, and despite a last-second (literally) goal by Strathroy Blue, Strathroy Red was able to maintain their lead and notch a win in the end. The final score was 4-3 for our boys. Way to play, Strathroy Red!
